PERKESO EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE SYSTEM (EIS) PROGRAMME

EIS/ the EIS/ EIS PERKESO, is the abbreviation for the Employment Insurance Scheme. It is also known as Sistem Insurans Pekerjaan, or SIP. The EIS in Malaysia is a financial scheme overseen by the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) that provides financial aid to retrenched employees for up to 6 months. What’s great about it is, apart from the monetary aid; job counseling and matching are also provided. This scheme is for all Malaysian citizens and permanent residents in the private sector, aged between 18-60 years old.

EIS covers those who have been retrenched for their jobs as well as those who have had to resign because of personal threats to themselves or to their family members. This include sexual harassment at the workplace. EIS does not cover employees who have been dismissed or disciplinary reasons (e.g. fraud, persistent, punctuality issues) nor those whose contracts have not been extended. Also excluded are employees who have reached retirement age, as well as the spouses of previously insured employees who have passed away.
